Dear brother David:

I was very disappointed to read of your official statement for Jews For Jesus released 7/31/12, “Jews For Jesus Affirms the Messianic Jewish Movement and the Messianic Congregational Movement.”

Instead of uniting the Body of Christ as you claim, you are endorsing yet another wall of division and sectarianism that I believe God hates, and giving the devil further support in keeping the church fragmented and confused.

As you are well aware, the Messianic Movement and its corresponding denominational organizations such as the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA) have been dividing Jewish believers in Jesus (Yeshua) the Messiah from other gentile Christians since their modern development in the 1970’s (see: http://messianic.wikidot.com/the-history-of-the-messianic-movement). The apostle Paul, a Jewish believer in Jesus, condemned the formation of such clickish groups within the church. Already in the early church of Corinth, members where forming factions, and isolating themselves from other believers in Jesus simply because of petty differences. Some were saying, “I follow Paul,” another “I follow Apollos,” and another, “I follow Cephas (Peter).” Paul rebuked them by declaring, “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul?” (1 Corinthians 1:12-13).

The absurdity of denominationalism.

Church history well documents the fact that the majority of Christian denominations have been started over minor contentions in doctrinal differences, or simply in church leadership. When followers of Christ have disagreed on such trivial matters as the correct method of water baptism or the proper length of a woman’s hair, tragically, severe arguments and schisms in the church have ensued. Too often, the result has been the emergence of another denomination. Rather than patiently and lovingly working out their differences for the sake of unity, followers of Christ have cut themselves off from one another and formed their own churches which they might label “Baptists,” “Methodists,” “Pentecostals,” “Messianics,” and so on. This constant sub-division within the Christian church has inflicted untold harm to the cause of Christ, as well as created great confusion, with over 41,000 churches and organizations today – all claiming to be “Christian.”

I believe the late Moshe Rosen, the founder of your organization, understood the harm of sectarianism and was hesitant about “affirming” the Messianic Movement. Unlike you, David, I believe we should endeavor to get along with our Messianic brethren and cooperate with their efforts to reach the lost for Jesus [Yeshua] Christ [Messiah] without endorsing or “affirming” their sin of sectarianism, nor their tendency to become modern-day Judaisers.

Stan Telchin, who was a converted Jew, had valid criticisms of the modern Messianic churches. His biblical position of “One New Man” in Christ eliminated the need for Jewish believers to isolate themselves from Gentile believers by forming their own “Messianic” churches. Stan was absolutely right in his teaching that a Jewish person who comes to faith in Christ does not have to give up his Jewish identity. He can continue to worship alongside Gentile followers of Jesus without leaving the traditional Christian church. If he wishes to keep the Saturday sabbath, or keep a kosher diet, or follow the original biblical feast days, that’s a matter of personal choice and conviction.

Stan Telchin’s book, “Some Messianic Jews Say, Messianic Judaism Is Not Christianity: A Loving Call To Unity” contained great wisdom and anointing from God. I am ashamed of you for not supporting it’s message. Furthermore in your statement, you even disavowed any association with Stan’s ministry or publications. I also noticed you timed the release of your statement after the death of your founder, Moshe Rosen, who was a long-time friend and supporter of Stan Telchin. It is obvious to me that you are more concerned about offending your Messianic donors than in proclaiming the truth. This is blatant compromise for the sake of men-pleasing and the pursuit of filthy lucre on your part, and the part of your Jews For Jesus Global Council, in my opinion.

For what it’s worth, you’ve lost my humble financial support and the respect I’ve had for your organization in the past. Until I am convinced of your repentance, all I can do is continue to pray for you, and the Jews for Jesus Global Council.

Sincerely in Christ,

Pastor Luis Yosefus

Comment from David Yohannon Zav:ALL I CAN SAY IS AMEN! THERE IS NO DISTINCTION IN MESSIAH. AND AS YOU POINTED OUT, WE HAVE BEEN ADMONISHED ABOUT TRYING TO MAKE SUCH “MADE WITH HANDS” DISTINCTIONS. THANKS FOR THE GOOD WORD THAT REFLECTS TRUTH AND WISDOM. THE “RUB” IS IN THE PRACTICE BETWEEN BELIEVERS. OUR LOVE-WALK, ACCEPTANCE OF ONE ANOTHER WHERE WE ARE AT ON THE JOURNEY, COMMITMENT TO BUILD EACH OTHER UP INTO MASHIACH AND A FOCUS UPON THE ONE WE CLAIM TO BE FOLLOWING SHOULD GUIDE US INTO BEING TRULY SPIRIT-LED WITH EACH OTHER.”
