Obnoxious Christianity is not True Christianity

Religious Liberty

Obnoxious Christianity is not True Christianity. Will the real followers of Jesus Christ please stand up? Our religion is being hijacked by obnoxious fundamentalists! They do not speak for the true followers of Jesus Christ the Messiah.

Authentic Christians practice the manifestation of God’s love, compassion and tolerance towards all people of differing beliefs, as well as obedience to civil and government authorities.

Right Wing Nuts

Right Wing Nuts Give TRUE Christians A Bad Name

So many Christians today are giving true Christianity a bad public image and dishonoring Christ with their obnoxious behavior.

A Carter County Detention Center image shows Kim Davis on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015. The Rowan County, Ky., clerk went to jail Thursday for refusing to issue marriage licenses, but five of her deputies agreed to comply with the law, ending a two-month standoff. (Carter County Detention Center/TNS)

Kim Davis’ Arrest

The latest example is Kentucky clerk Kim Davis. She was arrested recently after being found in contempt of court for defying a Supreme Court order to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

I say, dear Lady, if your job interferes with your religious beliefs, you simply need to resign and find another job. Do not think you are honoring God by going to jail. You’re going to jail for being a law-breaker and a bad example of a Christian. Your brand of Christianity is misguided or illegitimate.

The early Christian church also had members who were giving Christ a bad reputation. Here are a some rebukes addressing these issues:

For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly…” – 2 Thessalonians 3:11

Let none of you suffer for committing murder, theft, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs.” – 1 Peter 4:15

Whether you agree with the morality of certain laws or not, Christians need to respect other people’s right to live as they see fit. We may not agree with homosexuality or same-sex marriage, but it is now the law. And Christians are not called to impose their values on others who believe differently. We are to win people to Christ by our love and good behavior, not by coercion, bullying and meddling.

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” – Romans 13:1

I’m sure that, in Kim Davis’ mind, she considers herself to be suffering for doing good. But we pray that her, like so many others like her in the church today, will cease their delusional behavior and evil doing. It is my opinion that they are doing more harm than good for the cause of Christ.

Christian Mercy & Kindness

Mercy n Kindness

What did Jesus teach us about mercy and kindness?

In the Beatitudes He said, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy, God’s favor, and a life filled with joy and satisfaction.” – Matthew 5:7

He taught us to be merciful and kind towards others, no matter their station in life, their racial difference, or religious beliefs. The word merciful in the original Greek text means actively compassionate. Examine your motives: If you’re helping someone and expecting something in return, you’re doing business, not kindness.

As Christians, we must always remember that since we have obtained God’s mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ, shouldn’t we also extend the same grace to all we encounter in our lives everyday?

God wishes that none should perish, but that all should reach repentance and saving faith in Jesus. We are His ambassadors. One of the best ways we can best draw people to the true and living God is to show mercy and compassion in practical ways – like feeding and clothing the poor, encouraging the hurting, lending a hand to the needy, or offering some other act of kindness – expecting nothing in return from them.

Those Christians who are the most effective witnesses for Christ are those who not only witness in word, but also in action and good deeds.

Pray and ask Jesus to give you opportunities today to be merciful and kind to everyone you meet. In turn, you will receive God’s favor, and a life filled with joy and satisfaction.

Dishonoring Christ

Dishonorong_Christ

6 Things that Christians commonly do that dishonor Christ

  1. Being Weird and Obnoxious
  2. Being Judgmental of Others
  3. Being Hypocritical
  4. Being Dishonest
  5. Being Immoral
  6. Being Unloving

“…Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16

Are you a good Christian example? Does your life  repel people from Christ, or draw people to Christ?

Examine yourself. Pray and ask the Lord to help you improve your Christian witness. Commit yourself to doing your part in becoming more like Jesus everyday, and in every way. Amen.

How far have you come with Jesus?

How far you can go in Christ_jpg

The day you received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord you began a journey of inner transformation and spiritual evolution. Since that time, how far have you come in your journey?

Are you a better person today than you were 6 months ago? One year ago? Five years ago? You should be able to look back and see some positive changes in your character and manner of living. Has the Spirit of the indwelling Christ made a difference in your life?

Jesus didn’t die just for your sins and save you, but also to transform you into His image.

And we all, with unveiled faces reflecting the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another…“ – 2 Corinthians 3:18

Each new day of your life, pray that you will reflect the glory of the Lord more and more. Listen to His voice as He guides you and corrects anything that needs improving. Don’t ever stop moving forward, no matter what obstacles you may face.

Pray, “I will not quit. I will never give up. I will continue to press-on to victory in Jesus.”

What is your relationship with God?

Flower Graphic_jpg

Your relationship with God is like a flower. When you see
a beautiful flower do you say, “I LIKE YOU”, or “I LOVE
YOU.”

When you like a flower, you just pluck it. But when you
love a flower, you water it daily.

Do you LIKE God? Or do you LOVE God? If you really love
God, spend quality time with Him daily.
