Please Do Not Feed The Internet Trolls

Please Do Not Feed Internet Trolls_smAn “Internet troll”, or simply a “Troll” in Internet slang, is generally a sociopath. A sociopath is a person with an antisocial personality disorder. They are often well liked because of their charm and high charisma, but they do not usually care about other people. They think mainly of themselves and often blame others for the things that they do. They have a complete disregard for rules and lie constantly.

Do not waste time feeding the Internet Trolls

Many Christians spend a lot of time “feeding” (arguing) with Internet Trolls on chat rooms and other social media thinking this is a good way to witness to them regarding Christ. In most cases, this is a waste of time. You’re not going to convince them. They are fools who want nothing to do with God. When you rebuke a fool, he will hate you – not appreciate you (Proverbs 9:8). Only the wise will respond in a favorable manner, so pray and use great discernment when you witness on the Internet.

Facebook Trolls

Facebook Trolls are also sociopaths who are lonely or antisocial in real life and give the impression they want to develop an online dating relationship with you. Actually, they really have no intention of ever meeting you in person or going any further than chatting. They are almost impossible to reach by telephone because they would rather talk by Instant Messenger (Chat) or phone text messages, which they can hide behind. Beware! Most of these folks are usually married or in a relationship already.

There are also Facebook Trolls who set up phony Facebook accounts and send you a Friend Request, while pretending to want to be your friend. After you approve their FB Friend Request they’ll wait a few days and then start spamming and tagging you in order to get you to buy their sunglasses or some other product they’re selling.

Sadistic Sociopaths

Sadistic Sociopaths, another type of Troll, are commonly found posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages on Social Media, in an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic and legitimate debate and discussion. They come into a discussion and posts comments designed to upset or disrupt the conversation. They get a thrill out of posting comments that upset everyone else involved. Sadistic Trolls lie, exaggerate, and offend – just to get a response. Your suffering brings them pleasure.

The Best Defense Against Trolls

Internet Trolls are deceitful people. They have no conscience of right and wrong. They may even pretend to be Christian people, but their religion is futile and their actions are reprehensible to the LORD. Avoid them at all cost!

“Deceitful speech is reprehensible to the LORD, but those who act faithfully are his delight.” – Proverbs 12:22

Actor Richard Gere goes undercover as homeless man

Richard Gere goes homeless

Actor Richard Gere recently went undercover as a homeless man in New York City (see photo). He learned firsthand how cruel and indifferent people can be towards the less fortunate.

A homeless woman came up to me the other day as I was leaving the local 7-Eleven. She asked me for a dollar to get something to eat. I didn’t give her any money, but I went back in and bought her a complete breakfast. I find this method works best because you’re not giving them money to buy drugs or alcohol. Afterwards, she asked me to pray for her. I did in Jesus’ name.

Let us follow Jesus’ example of compassion and mercy whenever we have opportunity to help someone in need, and use that opportunity to be a witness of God’s love.

Are you phubbing Jesus?

Phubbing Jesus_jpg

Phubbing (or phone snubbing) is a modern-day problem affecting many people today. Perhaps you may be guilty of phubbing others, and never realized it.

When your friend or loved one is constantly distracted by looking at their cell phone, talking on the phone, texting, or reading their social media feed while you are trying to keep a conversation going, this can be very frustrating! Here are some common complaints:

  • My friend or partner continually glances at his/her cell phone while talking to me
     phubbing 2
  • If there is a lull in our conversation, my friend or partner will rudely check his/her cell phone for text messages

  • I feel that I am being ignored when my friend or partner gives more importance to his/her cell phone than to paying attention to me.

The new cell phone technology has provided many benefits for users, but it has also created social problems too. New studies on human behavior show that it is having detrimental effects on our relationships, and is monopolizing our attention spans. Respondents to a recent survey said that being “phubbed” by their friends or partners inevitably causes conflicts, lowers the level of our relational satisfaction, and leads to higher levels of depression from being neglected.

When Jesus gets phubbed.

I can imagine how Jesus feels when we ignore Him. Whether we are too busy or distracted to pray, study His word, or spend quality time with Him, our relationship with Jesus suffers too. We start losing our peace and joy, and experience decreasing satisfaction with our Christian faith. When this occurs in our lives, we’ve got to take drastic steps to remedy the problem. Since Jesus requires being the number one priority in our lives, we may have to ditch whatever has come between Jesus and us. Our Master and King must reign in first place in our hearts and lives – or He is not truly Lord at all.

Think about it: Have you been “phubbing” Jesus by neglecting His fellowship, personal prayer time, missing church services, or allowing other priorities in your life to come between your relationship with Him? If so, it’s time you stopped ignoring Jesus and make things right.

Victory or Shame?

Victory_or_Shame

Yesterdays victory for Christian fundamentalists is a disgrace to us liberal Christians. We do not believe in Kim Davis’ breaking the rule of law nor trying to impose her religious beliefs and moral values on gay citizens who have as much right to free speech and beliefs as protected by our constitution.

Alleged Prophet Rebukes Pastor John MacArthur

John-MacArthurOn August 16, 2015, a self-proclaimed prophet with a Scottish accent rudely interrupted a church service at Grace Community Church in Panorama City, California. He shouted charges against Pastor John MacArthur until he was escorted out of the church by deacons.

He accused John MacArthur, of the popular TV and radio program, “Grace To You,” of teaching Cessationism, considered by some Pentecostals and Charismatics to be a false doctrine. Among other things the alleged prophet shouted, “You have grieved the Holy Spirit. Your doctrine of cessation is in error, John MacArthur. If you don’t believe in prophets, you’re looking at one…”

Afterward, John MacArthur explained that “this uninvited guest claimed that it is heresy to say that spiritual gifts like tongues and prophecy have ceased and he added that, according to 1 Corinthians 14, the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets and if this man were a real prophet, he wouldn’t have behaved that way.”

Although I don’t completely agree with everything that Pastor MacArthur has taught in the past, I believe He is a man of God and a gifted expositor of the Bible. This incident is typical of squabbles over trivial differences in doctrines that have kept the Christian church divided for thousands of years. These divisive arguments have given birth to so many church splits, hundreds of denominations and much confusion among believers. It’s time Christians stopped fighting among themselves and took a united stand to preach the gospel light of Jesus Christ to a world living in darkness.

What do you think?

Did this alleged prophet do the right thing? Is it proper for someone to rudely interrupt an orderly church service and shout accusations against a respected pastor or preacher?
