Divine Wisdom and Knowledge

Grace For Today“The Lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season …He awakens me morning by morning, he awakens my ear to hear as the learned.” – Isaiah 50:4

I was conversing with a new pastor friend yesterday and he asked me about my ministry, “Did you learn everything you know about the Bible through formal training or by divine instruction?” I responded, “Just like Jesus, I was taught by the Holy Spirit Himself.” I could tell by his question that this pastor understood the importance of being trained for the ministry by God Himself.

Many preachers and ministers, like myself, have never had the opportunity to go to seminary or Bible College for one reason or another. But that doesn’t mean we are inferior in knowledge or wisdom to others who have had formal training. In fact, sometimes it’s better. You see, most Bible Colleges and Seminaries are contaminated with false teachings and denominational biases that can skew a minister’s perspective regarding the truth of God’s Word. Whether it’s a Baptist College or Methodist College or Presbyterian College, and so on, these academic institutions have a tendency to turn out brain-washed ministers that can only think inside the box of their denominational mindset.

Whereas, when the Holy Spirit teaches you Himself, you don’t have this problem. You get the truth straight from the ultimate source of wisdom and knowledge without any interference from man-made ideas or doctrines. That’s what the prophet Isaiah was referring to when He wrote:

“The Lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak…”

”The tongue of the learned” refers to the idea that you can teach and preach the Bible just as good or better as those who have formally studied for years in academic institutions. How is this possible? Because God imparts to you a supernatural anointing that teaches you of all things. The apostle John spoke of this impartation of divine knowledge and wisdom when he wrote:

“But the anointing which ye have received of Him [God] abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.“ – 1 John 2:27

If God is calling you to be a teacher or preacher of the gospel, don’t let the lack of formal schooling discourage you from fulfilling your ministry. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the same impartation of divine knowledge and wisdom that He has given others for thousands of years. In faith, begin to study God’s Word for yourself and go out and preach and teach what He personally gives you. You will be amazed at how many souls you can reach and how much fruitfulness your ministry will bear, with God as your teacher.

The Righteous Shall Flourish

Date Palm bearing fruit in Israel.

“The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he hall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of Yahovah shall flourish in the courts of our God.” – Psalm 92:12-13

Have you made the Sabbath a part of your life? The LORD promises a blessing for those who observe His commandment to rest on the seventh day (Saturday) of the week. God promised to bless those who honor the special day that He sanctified from creation. The Sabbath is a sign between you and your God.

“They shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and green: to show that the LORD is upright…” – Psalm 92:13-15

Do you want to be like the palm tree that is blessed and thrives and continues to bring much fruit in its old age? Start keeping God’s seventh-day Sabbath this week. It begins at sundown on Friday nights, and ends at sundown on Saturday nights. According to God’s reckoning of time for a twenty-four hour day, the new day always begins at sundown. The first book of the Bible records this method of keeping time, and God’s people have been practicing this method of reckoning for thousands of years.

“And the evening and the morning were the first day.” – Genesis 1:5

May God bless you with His wonderful presence this Sabbath.

Shabbat Shalom,

Pastor Luis Yosefus

The Blessings of the Sabbath

Many born-again, Spirit-filled believers in Jesus Christ [the Messiah] are rediscovering the validity and blessing of keeping the original Saturday Sabbath. In order to receive the blessings of the Sabbath, every follower of Jesus needs to consecrate this holy day each week to God, alter their accustomed behavior of Sunday-keeping, and resist the pressures of the world to conform to their system of reckoning days and time.

In my own walk with their Lord, this occurred a number of years ago when I became a devoted Bible student. Prior to my discovery of the true Sabbath day, I was a regular Sunday-keeper. I had been saved and born-again into a mainline denominational church and nurtured by the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. But as I grew older and wiser as a follower of Jesus, I began to discover inconsistencies in what my church was teaching and what the Bible actually said. The Holy Spirit, which indwells us and guides into all truth, is the greatest teacher of all (John 15:26, 16:8, 1 John 2:27). He, who Jesus called “The Spirit of Truth” began to give me new revelations that I never knew before, and thereby furthered the perfecting of my knowledge of Christ.

“And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He that says, I know Him, and keeps not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whosoever keeps His Word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby we know that we are in Him.” – 1 John 2:3-5

One of the inconsistencies that my church was erroneously teaching, was the abrogation of the fourth commandment, namely, the sanctity of the Saturday Sabbath. I could not understand how my church claimed they believed in the Ten Commandments, but at the same time disregarded the commandment to keep the seventh day of the week holy (Exodus 20:8-11).

When I ask the pastor of my church regarding this fault, I was told that the original seventh day of rest and worship was replaced by the first day of the week (Sunday) under the New Testament. “Where does it say that in the Bible?”, I asked. My pastor replied, “Well, it doesn’t really say that in the Bible, it is simply a doctrine that our denomination believes.” I thanked the pastor for his honesty, but I decided to study further on this subject for myself and prayerfully come to my own conclusion.

Sabbath-keepers vs. Sunday-keepers

As I prayed and sought the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit, I eventually came to the personal conviction that God has never authorized anyone to change the Ten Commandments, and therefore, the seventh day of the week (Saturday) Sabbath was still God’s designated holy day. I also discovered that keeping the Sabbath is an outward sign that I belong to God.

“Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my Sabbaths you shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am Yahovah that does sanctify you.” – Exodus 31:13

“Moreover also I gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Yahovah that sanctify them.” – Ezekiel 20:12

“And hallow my Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am Yahovah your God.” – Ezekiel 20:20

Not only are we to keep the original Saturday Sabbath in obedience to God’s commandment, but it also becomes a “sign” that we are God’s elect people – saved, sanctified and set apart from the rest of humanity. Sabbath-keepers distinguish themselves from Sunday-keepers as a sign that we belong to God and to manifest His righteousness and glory.

Today, those who keep the Sabbath are no longer limited to odd Christian fringe groups such as the Seventh-Day Adventists and others. More and more believers within mainstream Christianity are rediscovering the sanctity and blessing of Sabbath observance. Numerous individual believers, religious groups, Bible scholars and church leaders are now taking a fresh look at Sabbath observance. Many of these have also ceased the unbiblical practice of Sunday-keeping in place of the true Sabbath.

If you would like to study further on this subject of keeping the fourth commandment, write us for our free booklet, “The Blessings of the Sabbath” by Pastor Luis Yosefus.  We know that God will bless you with greater wisdom and understanding of His Word as you endeavor to place truth above tradition, and learn to “think outside of the box” of pop religion.

In the Master’s service,
