Hanukkah Verses Christmas

Mosaic of Maccabee Revolt: Faithful Jews cleanse the temple of pagan defilement and restore the worship of the one true God.

Mosaic of Maccabee Revolt: Faithful Jews cleanse the temple of pagan defilement and restore the worship of the one true God.

More and more born-again believers in Jesus Christ [Messiah] are now celebrating Hanukkah each year instead of Christmas. They have discarded the pagan practice of observing “Christ-Mass” and begun to observe Hanukkah instead in a New Testament context. For more information on the fallacy of Christmas observance, read our article: “Was Jesus really born on December 25th.”?

Hanukkah’s historical origin.

The Hanukkah holiday we celebrate this week originally commemorated the defilement of the Jewish temple in 167 B.C. by the Roman ruler Antiochus IV Epiphanes when he attacked Jerusalem, purposely sacrificed a pig (and other abominable creatures to the Jews) on the temple altar, and forced everyone to worship Zeus, his pagan god.

A small number of faithful and heroic Jews, known as the Maccabees, fought back and regained control of their temple from the Roman invasion. Immediately they cleansed the temple and restored the worship of the one true God, Yahovah.

The miracle associated with Hanukkah occurred when the Jewish priests only had enough oil for the Candelabrum to give them one day of light. But they prayed in faith, and God miraculously made the oil last for eight days until more oil could be produced. Thus, the significance of the eight days of Hanukkah where one new candle is lit everyday. The ninth candle is called the “Shammash” (Hebrew: Servant), used to light all the other candles.

New Testament meaning of Hanukkah.

Hanukkah should remind us that our bodies should be cleansed daily of any spiritual defilement because we are the personal dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Let us live in such a way as to honor and please God with our bodies. When you commit sin, you must confess it quickly and ask God to forgive you and cleanse you once again from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

How Jewish and Gentile Christians celebrate Hanukkah

You are God's Temple

You are God’s Temple

Born-again believers in Jesus Christ [Messiah], whether of Jewish or gentile origin (it matters not since we are now “one in Christ”) celebrate Hanukkah each year with a different meaning. Hanukkah is more than lighting candles, giving gifts, and enjoying a special dinner with family and friends. It’s about re-dedicating your life and body, the temple of the Holy Spirit, to serving Jesus Christ [Messiah] for another year with renewed faith, love and devotion.

”What? Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price [The sacrifice of Jesus]. Therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which belong to God.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

comment_smComment from Pastor Luis Yosefus: “YOUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. One of the historical themes of Hanukkah is the cleansing of the temple. It should remind us that our bodies should be cleansed daily of any spiritual defilement because we are the personal dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, one of the members of the Triune Godhead (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit). Because the Holy Spirit now lives in you, your body belongs to God. You are responsible to safeguard it from any defilement through immoral words, thoughts, desires, or deeds, lest you commit the sin of defiling the temple of God. www.RealJesus.net

One God, One Way

The Antichrist will unite all world religions into one and cause all who follow him to be condemed forever.

The Antichrist will unite all world religions into one and cause all who follow him to be condemed forever.

Years ago before I received Jesus as my Savior and Lord, I experimented with other religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, New Age Metaphysics, the Occult, and others. One of the common threads of all these false religions was the prevalent teaching that “All paths lead to God. It doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you believe in god.”  Nothing could be further from the truth; there is only ONE GOD and only ONE WAY to find Him – through Jesus Christ His Son.

When I became a Christian and began to closely study the Bible. I realized that I had been deceived for many years by these counterfeit religious ideologies that had claimed to show me the way to God. Even today, I often come across Muslims, for instance, who tell me, “You and I worship the same god. “Allah” is the same god as your Christian God.” I quickly correct them, “No He is not! The God of the Jews and Christians is not the same god you Muslims worship. The true God, Creator of the universe is not Allah, but Yahovah. You are worshipping a false god, I’m sorry to say.” Muslims usually get offended when they hear this, but the truth is often hard to swallow. Afterwards I always pray for their blinded eyes to be opened.

God’s way is narrow. Jesus is the only way.

Yahovah God sent His only begotten Son into the world to be the sacrificial Pesach (Passover) Lamb that can take away our sins and reconcile us to the true and only God.

You can follow some other (false) god if you wish, but there is only one true way to God – through His Son Jesus Christ the Messiah. Jesus Himself declared, “…No man comes to the Father, but by Me.” (John 14:6). Perhaps you may think that is dogmatic and narrow. I have to admit that it is; but it’s also the truth. It’s the only kind of belief system that will bring you to God.

Now, you don’t have to follow the narrow road to salvation; you’re free to follow the broad road that most people are traveling to destruction. God allows you to reject the truth and believe anything you wish, or following any other (false) religion you prefer to His. God won’t stop you from making a mistake (that is where your free will comes in). But if you want to follow the only true way to God, you have to get on the right path or you’ll be lost. That’s just the way it is. Yahovah God has decreed that there is only one right way – through Jesus His Son.

We cannot be saved by our own good works either.

Performing good deeds and keeping the laws of God are always important, but they still cannot save us. They can never produce the absolute perfect righteousness that God requires. Only Jesus was sinless and perfect; His imputed righteousness through faith is what saves us.

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us” -Titus 3:5.

It is by “grace through faith in Jesus that we are saved. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” – Ephesians 2:8,9.

The minute you and I place our faith in Jesus’ substitionary death on our behalf, the way to God is open. It is the only way we can be saved.

Anyone can come.

Jesus invited everyone to come to salvation. He said, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” – John 7:37. This is an all-inclusive invitation to all human beings. None are excluded except those who exclude themselves. The Lord Jesus gives only one condition: “If any man thirst.” If you’re thirsting for the truth and the only true God, He asks you to simply come to Him. He is the only One that can satisfy you.

Prayer of Salvation:

Pray this prayer right now with all sincerity….

“Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God, the Messiah of both Jews and Gentiles. I believe that you sacrificed your life on the cross of Calvary to pay the penalty for my sins. I repent of my sins; please forgive me. Today, I receive you as my Savior and Lord. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to live my life for You, from this day forth, amen.”

If you prayed this prayer just now, please let us know. We want to rejoice with you and send you some free resources to help you grow in your new Christian faith. Simply contact us and provide your postal address where we can mail you the packet.

The enemy of both Christians and Jews is dead.

“Who is like You O LORD…glorious in holiness, fearful in praise, doing wonders.” – Exodus 15:11

U.S. President Barack Obama has confirmed today that Osama bin Laden, leader of the Al-Qaeda terror group who has been sought for nearly a decade due to his group’s involvement in the September 11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center, is dead. “Justice has been done”, he said, addressing his words in particular to the families of those killed in 9/11, in the war against the Taliban and also thanking those servicemen and women who took part in the search for the terrorist leader.

“Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song [of victory] to the LORD:

“I will sing to the LORD,

for he is highly exalted.

The horse and its rider

he has hurled into the sea.

The LORD is my strength and my song;

he has become my salvation.

He is my God, and I will praise him,

my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

The LORD is a warrior;

the LORD is his name.

Pharaoh’s chariots and his army

he has hurled into the sea.

The best of Pharaoh’s officers

are drowned in the Red Sea.

The deep waters have covered them;

they sank to the depths like a stone.

“Your right hand, O LORD,

was majestic in power.

Your right hand, O LORD,

shattered the enemy.

In the greatness of your majesty

you threw down those who opposed you.

You unleashed your burning anger;

it consumed them like stubble.”

– Exodus 15:1-7

Reverting back to the law of Moses brings a curse.

Reverting back to the law of Moses brings a curse.

Christians Are Not Under the Law of Moses - By Luis Yosefus

During the early days of the Christian church, the Galatian believers (both Jews and Gentiles) were in danger of falling from grace. Certain false teachers labeled as “Judaisers” had secretly infiltrated the church and were convincing the naïve new Christians that they needed to be circumcised and follow the Mosaic laws to be saved. When the apostle Paul heard about it, he was extremely alarmed. He pronounced a curse on these Judaisers and anyone who preached anything but the Gospel of Grace.

“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.” – Galatians 1:8

Although the apostle Paul was a believing Jew himself, he was appalled that other Jews had come into the Galatian church and were preaching “another gospel”, confusing the young believers, and causing many to revert back to the Mosaic system that had become obsolete after Jesus the Messiah came and instituted the New Covenant. Tragically, I see this same problem occurring in many Christian churches today – particularly in Hebraic and Messianic congregations who want to become so Jewish in their worship of God that they go completely overboard and become immersed in the Old Testament Mosaic system. As a result, they end up extremely “Hebraic” in their style and practice of Christianity and they “turn off” most Gentile and Jewish prospects alike. The Christian church should be a melding of people of all races – both Jewish and Gentile believers in Jesus the Messiah. Whether you prefer to call Him Jesus, or Yeshua, the bottom line is, Jesus died to save people of all races, languages, and nationalities, and combine them into “one new man”, the universal Body of Christ.

Beware of falling from Grace.

Almost the entire Book of Galatians was written with the intent of exposing the false teachings of the Judaisers and prevent Christians from falling from the Gospel of Grace by reverting back to the Old Testament Mosaic system. The apostle Paul had strong words for the Judaisers and called them “accursed” of God. He also labeled those Galatian Christians who were following the false teachers “foolish”, and declared they had become “bewitched” by the Judaisers. He rebuked them, saying:

“Oh foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth? Did you receive the Holy Spirit by keeping the law of Moses, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish that having begun your [Christian life] in the Spirit [by faith], are you now being made perfect by the flesh [the law of Moses]?” – Galatians 3:1-3.

He also asked that if salvation could be achieved by the keeping of the Old Testament Torah (Law), then what was the purpose of Jesus’ sacrificial death?

Did Jesus die in vain?

The apostle Paul went on to argue that we are NOT justified (cleared of our sin guilt) by keeping the Torah or the Mosaic ordinances, but by faith in Jesus Christ, the anointed Son of God — by the vicarious, atoning sacrifice He made on our behalf. He added:

“that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by keeping the Mosaic law; for by the works of the law no flesh (no one) shall be saved.”

“I do not set aside the grace of God, for if salvation and righteous standing before God comes through the Mosaic law, then Jesus Christ died in vain.”

–         Galatians 2:16-21

Salvation by grace through faith – not Torah-keeping.

God’s free gift of salvation comes by way of faith, and faith alone in what Jesus did for us, not what we can do for ourselves through the keeping of the Old Testament laws.

Only by faith, do we receive the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. And only by the power of the Holy Spirit can we progressively become perfected. The moment we revert back to the keeping of the Mosaic laws for our justification, we are grieving the Holy Spirit, and place ourselves in danger of falling from our foundational position of salvation and justification by grace.

Was Abraham justified by faith? Or, by the keeping of the law?

I ask those of you who want to become so Jewish in your talk and practice of your Christian faith: Do you remember the example of Abraham – the father of the Jewish race? What do the Scriptures say about his justification before God? It calls Abraham “the father of faith”. “Abraham believed God,” and it was accounted to him for righteousness (Galatians 3:6). Therefore, salvation, justification, and righteousness – both in the Old Testament and the New Testament, have always been by faith. The prophet Habakkuk declared (while still under the Old Covenant), “For the just (justified) shall live by his faith.” (Habakkuk 2:4). The apostle Paul also quoted this same verse in Galatians 3:11.

Come out from among them.

Beloved, I pray that you will heed the voice of the Holy Spirit and come out from among any church or group that is deceiving you –that is preaching “another gospel and another Jesus” (2 Corinthians 11:4). The true Gospel of of Jesus Christ is a gospel of salvation and justification by grace through faith in Christ’s redemptive work for us on the cross. Do not listen to the modern-day Judaisers who claim they have a new or better revelation from God, or who teach that you must revert back to the Mosaic system – touch not, eat not, keep Torah, and so on. Salvation has always been by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, the Messiah, and not of works, lest anyone should boast in their own righteousness, and nullify the work of Christ on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-10).

New Cuba and Israel Friendship

ISRAEL NEWS

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.” – Psalm 122:6

Israel’s Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres sent a letter of thanks to former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro for his words of support for Israel’s right to exist and empathy with the tragedies of Jewish history.

Castro, in a recent interview with The Atlantic Magazine, said Israel “without a doubt” has the right to exist, and criticized Iranian President Mahmoud Admadinejad for his Holocaust denial, saying Iran should understand the consequences of theological anti-Semitism.

“I don’t think anyone has been slandered more than the Jews,” Castro said. “I would say much more than Muslims…because they are blamed and slandered for everything. No one blames the Muslims for anything.” (Read full article, The Jerusalem Post, September 26, 2010, pag. 2).

To hear these words of support for Israel from Fidel Castro has surprised Jews and Christians around the world, but are warmly welcomed, to be sure.
