Jesus is our great High Priest

The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) begins tonight at sundown until sundown on Saturday. Let us fast, pray and humbly examine ourselves. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any sin in your life and confess them to God the Father. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us, once again, of all unrighteousness.

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.“ – 1 John 1:8-9

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” – Hebrews 4:14-16

The Day of Atonement (Hebrew: Yom Kippur) is the sixth of the Biblical Feasts commanded by God. It is  a necessary backdrop for understanding the Messiah’s crucifixion and payment for our sins.

Kippur is from the Hebrew word kaphar, meaning “to cover.” On Yom Kippur we remember the atoning blood sacrifice that Jesus Himself provided as the holy “Lamb of God” for all who receive Him as their Savior and Lord. “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.“ – Leviticus 17:11

From Pastor Luis – 10-1-11

The Day of Atonement and the Feast of Tabernacles are coming up soon within a few days (October 8th and 13th). Already our church is preparing with excitement for the last two of the Fall feasts.

I just bought some lumber today at the Home Depot to build our temporary “booth” made of wooden poles and palm branches for a roof. Underneath this makeshift little house we will pray, study, eat, drink, and rejoice every morning for seven days as God commanded us to observe each year at these holy and appointed times.

It is so refreshing and blessed to be celebrating holidays that are truly biblical in nature and discarding those that have no business within the Christian church. Our Lord Jesus Christ the Messiah and His disciples never observed Christmas, Saint Valentines Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, Easter, or Halloween. All these popular holidays are actually “pagan” in their origins and demonic by inspiration:

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils…” – 1 Timothy 4:1

For too long, the practices of Christ-Mass, Santa Clauses, Christmas trees, Cupids and bow and arrows, Easter egg hunts and chocolate bunny rabbits, dressing up as witches and vampires, and other such pagan practices has spiritually corrupted the Christian churches. More pastors and church leaders need to speak out against it (no matter how unpopular the truth may be received), and put a stop to it once and for all.

Following Christ’s example.

All faithful Christians need to come out of Babylon (the confusion and apostasy) practiced by many churches today and follow Christ’s example of observing ONLY those Holy Days that Jesus Christ and the early New Testament believers observed. Contrary to popular thought, the only holidays that God approves of are those He commanded in Leviticus chapter 23. He states several times in this chapter that they are to be observed as a “a perpetual ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live.“ They are not “outdated Jewish holidays” or “obsolete under the New Covenant” as many falsely claim. They are still in effect for the Christian church today, and will continue to be observed during the future Millennial Reign of Christ (see Zechariah 14:16-19). God Himself ordained these Holy Days for all His people to observe – both Jew and Gentile. We call them “The Seven Biblical Feasts”

The Day of Atonement

On this Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) let us remember that we believers in Jesus can approach God’s throne (the Holy of Holies) boldly and in confidence, not in fear, because of what Jesus has done for us. He is greater than Moses or Aaron; Jesus is our merciful and faithful High Priest. Receive His forgiveness and grace today.

“So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” – Hebrews 4:14-16
