Rebuke a Wise Man

A Wise Man_jpg

“Do not correct a fool or he will hate you; correct a wise man and he will appreciate you.” – Proverbs 9:8

Do you love God? I’m sure you do.

Do you love your church pastor?
Ah, maybe you have to think about that question some more. You see, too many Christians do not fully recognize that their local church pastor  or elder is God’s representative and spiritual authority over your life. They have been given the responsibility to look after you…to teach you and disciple you and protect you from straying away from God’s flock or making mistakes that will hurt your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Your local church pastor is your overseer (1 Peter 5:12). His is the ruling shepherd in the church and is accountable to God for you under the “Chief Shepherd” Jesus Christ. Their job is to feed you the Word of God, guide you in your spiritual walk, and guard over your souls.

Loving Reproof

It is also a pastor’s job to correct you when you’re doing something wrong. Some believers don’t like this part of a pastor’s function, but it is a biblical fact. Reproof and rebuke is often necessary for all of us. When your pastor reproves you, don’t get angry at him or falsely accuse him of being unloving. If he cares enough to correct you, he is demonstrating the same love that God has for you:

“For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son [or daughter] He receives.” – Hebrews 12:6

The Greek word used here for “chastening” is paideia. It not only carries the nuances of “discipline,” “rebuke,” and “correction,” but also the positive connotation of “training” and “guiding instruction” by a loving parent to bring their son or daughter to mature adulthood.

When a pastor chastens us for something that needs to be corrected in our lives, we should do the right and wise thing and accept his correction with humility. We should recognize that He loves us and desires to see us achieve our fullest potential in Christ.

“Reprove not a fool, lest he hate you.” The fool, on the other hand, does not respond well to reproof or discipline. He faints when being rebuked and becomes angry and resentful towards his pastor or God. The fool is destined to never learn from his mistakes or reach any spiritual maturity. Some are so prideful they will actually leave the church when reproved and fall away from God.

”… rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.”

The wise Christian doesn’t get their feelings hurt when reproved by their pastor because he regards the Lord’s discipline as evidence of his pastor’s love and concern. He sees God’s grace and commitment to us as our Father in his actions.

” Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them who are trained by it.” – Hebrews 12:11

When we receive correction from those in church authority – such as a pastor or elder, instead of getting mad, let us remember the admonition of Jesus who declared that whom He loves, He rebukes. Instead of sulking in self-pity, let us repent quickly and learn to love reproof.

” As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.“ – Revelation 3:19

Feed the Flock of God

shepherd-sheep“Take heed, therefore, unto yourselves, and all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost has made you overseers, to feed the church of God which He has purchased with His own blood.” – Acts 20:28

This classic verse emphasizes the great responsibility of pastors and overseers of the Christian churches. The members of the local congregation are likened to a flock of sheep who follow their earthly shepherds (as well as to Christ) that guide them and teach them in the way of God.

Pastors are responsible to feed the flock – the members of his congregation, with sound biblical teaching, counseling and spiritual guidance. They are also to protect their sheep from the spiritual dangers of ungodly wolves and other predators who may try to devour the sheep by introducing false doctrines, inciting strife and division in the church, or even shipwrecking their faith.

Day by day, the pastors of your church have an awesome task to do in shepherding the flock of God. They need your constant prayers on their behalf, and your faithful support in meeting their needs. Be generous in your giving to the church, and make yourself readily available to volunteer for whatever help their ministry requires.

Time is Running Short for America

AUTHOR’S NOTE: I originally published this message in May of 2012. Since then, America has not repented; instead they have continued morally downhill and further rebelled against God. Therefore, more disaster is imminent – perhaps sooner than the year 2015, as Rabbi Cahn predicts in his book, The Harbinger. God’s people need to prepare for the worst economic meltdown ever seen in the history of the United States, as well as other calamities. Only those who seek refuge in God will have any hope. Read Psalms 91 and heed its admonitions. – Pastor Luis Yosefus

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

“For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.” – Isaiah 9:16

For quite a number of years now, God’s true prophets in the Christian church have been calling America to repent and turn back to God. Sadly, many of these genuine prophetic voices have been drowned out by spiritually adulterous pastors and preachers who falsely reassure God’s people that God is not mad at them. They are like the compromising spiritual leaders of Israel who promised God’s people “peace and blessing” when disaster was looming over the horizon. When the people began to fear God’s judgments, the false prophets and lying priests comforted them by flatterings, showing that God would send peace to them, and not war.

“They offer superficial treatments for my people’s mortal wound. They give assurances of peace when there is no peace. Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish them,” says the LORD.” – Jeremiah 6:14-15

One such prophet who is sounding the alarm today is Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn. He has written an important book called The Harbinger which clearly illustrates the warning signs that God has been sending upon the United States of America. He likens these progressive warning judgments as Shemittahs (pronounced She-mee-tah in Hebrew) of seven-year cycles.

* The first Shemittah was the Terrorist Attack of 9/11/2001 on New York City’s Twin Towers.

* The second Shemittah was the Economic Collapse of 2008

* The third Shemittah will happen in the year 2015.

As these seven-year Shemittahs continue, God’s judgments will get progressively worse upon America. Unless America humbles herself, seeks God’s face, and turns from her wicked ways, God will not heal this nation from all her troubles (2 Chronicles 7:14). We have forsaken the LORD who once greatly blessed this nation. Therefore, because of America’s disobedience God is now sending curses upon America instead of blessing.

God says, “Do not listen to your arrogant leaders who cause you to err.”

After the first and second Shemittah judgments in 2001 and 2008, the arrogant American politicians declared:

“We will rebuild and emerge stronger than ever before!”

Israel’s leaders gave the people the same false assurance: “They said, “We will replace the broken bricks of our ruins with finished stone, and replant the felled sycamore-fig trees with cedars.” (Isaiah 9:10)

But God has a different message for the American people. It is the same message He spoke to the rebellious nation of Israel:

“For after all this punishment, the people will still not repent. They will not seek the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. Therefore, in a single day the LORD will destroy both the head and the tail, the noble palm branch and the lowly reed. The leaders of Israel are the head, and the lying prophets are the tail.” – Isaiah 9:13-15

Unless America repents, God will send further calamities upon this nation which will reach all sorts of persons – both the prominent politicians and apostate church leaders to the lowliest persons that trusted in their lies. He will beat down their vain presumptions of peace and prosperity, by showing that these false prophets, which had fed their vain hopes, should perish, and their false prophecies with them.

Is there any hope for America?

Yes, of course. But only if the American people meet God’s conditions. America must respond to God’s progressive punishments by asking for His forgiveness and turn back to Him with all their hearts. God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but ultimately desires that all will come to repentance.

“Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?– Ezekiel 18:23

God is a God of justice and righteousness and so He calls evil and sin what they are. He holds people accountable accordingly. But God is also a God of mercy and love, and desires that all people — even the most sinful and wicked among us — repent and “turn from their wicked ways.” However, when the wicked do not repent and turn, God has no choice but to afflict them with His justice, although He takes no pleasure when they ultimately experience the consequences of their wickedness in death.

So America is at a crossroads: Will she repent of her wickedness and turn back to God, thereby averting any further judgment? Or, will she ignore God’s warning judgments and further incur His wrath until the United States of America (as we know it) ceases to exist?

Desperate Prayer is Effective Prayer.

I believe God is calling His holy remnant to fervently pray and intercede for this nation as never before.

“The effective, FERVENT prayer of a righteous man avails much.” – James 5:16

The key to effective praying is fervency. Are you willing to be fervent in your intercession? Perhaps through the multitude of our desperate prayers for America we can help turn the tide and save this nation from ultimate ruin.

May God bless America once again.
