The Rapture of the Church

Spirit-Lifting Thoughts for Today_150 x 150_jpg“For you know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night.” “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; 5:2

The events described by the apostle Paul in these verses is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the Rapture of the Church.

When Jesus died on the cross, rose again, and ascended into heaven to be with God the Father, He told His disciples that, one day, He would return again. Therefore, we believe His promise and eagerly await His second coming, the rapture of His Bride (the faithful in His church), and the establishment of His millennial kingdom on the earth.

The word RAPTURE comes from the Greek word harpazo, which translates into a “catching away” of believers. The moment Jesus returns everyone will know; every eye will see Him coming in the sky. Some will be glad to see Him, while others will be afraid for their time of judgment has come. His mighty voice will shout from the heavens and the angels will blow their great trumpets.

The dead in Christ will be resurrected from their graves first, and then those of us who are still alive and remain will be instantly be given immortal bodies to fly up to meet the Lord in the air, which is the atmosphere between heaven and earth. Halleluyah!

Because no one knows the day or the hours of Jesus’ return, we need to be ready at all times by watching and living sanctified lives. Those who don’t have a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, or have not prepared their lamps with oil (like the five foolish virgins*) , will be left behind to experience the Great Tribulation, wrath of God He is sending upon the wicked of this earth.

If the Lord Jesus comes back today, will you be ready? If not, repent of your sinful ways and invite Jesus to become your Savior and Lord of your life. Amen.

Show Us The Father

Pastor Luis Yosefus

“Philip said, ‘Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.’ Jesus answered: ‘Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me…” – John 14:8-11

When the Apostle Philip asked Jesus to show him God the Father, previously he had not fully understood who Jesus the Messiah really was. Due to God’s custom of progressive revelation, many of us, like Philip, start out as “Baby Christians” and progressively grow into adult Christians as time passes.  We receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord and begin a lifelong spiritual journey whereby we grow stronger in our faith, more and more each day.  In the beginning, the Holy Spirit who indwells us feeds us primarily with spiritual baby’s milk, but as we grow as followers of Christ, He weans us away from the milk and begins to feed us solid food, when He sees that we are ready. As a result, our spiritual maturity and understanding is increased and greater revelation of who God is is given to us.

Such was the case with the Apostle Philip, when he reached a new milestone in his understanding of Jesus as God in the flesh.  He asked the Lord, “Show us the Father”. And Jesus responded. “Have I been with you these three-and-a-half years and you still don’t recognize the fact that I am God?” Immediately, Philip’s eyes were opened and he realized for the first time that Yeshua, [Jesus], his Jewish Rabbi, had been the God he had been searching for all along. Jesus Himself confirmed this to Philip and the other Disciples when He emphatically stated “Believe Me that I am in the Father (God) and the Father is in me.” –John 14:11

Elsewhere, he also stated to them, “If you had [really] known Me, you would have known [God], the Father, also: Henceforth, you now know God and have seen him: I am standing right in front of you.” (John 14:7)

Do you believe Jesus is God?

It’s important that your Christian Faith is founded on sound doctrine, because we are living in the last days before the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. False teachers abound in the Church today; some even deny the divinity of Jesus. But those who are making their calling an election sure (2Peter 1:10) will never be moved away from the sure foundation of Christ’s teachings. We must earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the apostles and saints of God from the very beginning (Jude 3).

Was Jesus a Rabbi?

Pastor Luis Yosefus

The simple answer to the question is, “Yes!”  Jesus was indeed a Jewish “teacher” of God’s Law and “Master” or spiritual leader over those who followed Him as His disciples. That’s what Rabbi means – a teacher or master.

A Rabbi in early first century Judaism and Christianity was very similar to what we call a “Pastor” or “Preacher” today.  The title “Reverend” that is commonly in use today was never permitted in the early church, since it was considered blasphemous to call any man Reverend (which means to be revered).  God alone is to be worshipped and revered.

Years ago, when I was first ordained as a minister of the gospel I was given the title “Reverend Luis.”  I used this religious title for a brief time not knowing any better. I must confess that being addressed as “Reverend” inflated my ego a little bit and I enjoyed the false sense that I was somehow better than others, on a higher spiritual level than other Christians. But as I grew older (and hopefully wiser), I saw the arrogance of such a preposterous title. I humbled myself before God and asked for His forgiveness. Afterwards I discontinued using the title Reverend or allowing anyone to address me in such a manner.  I prefer to be called Pastor or Shepherd or Teacher of God’s flock, under the authority of the Great Shepherd Himself – Jesus the Messiah.

In Jesus’ case, however, he was more than just a Rabbi or Teacher.  He was the only begotten Son of God, the long awaited Messiah of Israel, and Redeemer of all mankind.  To say that Jesus was simply a good teacher or godly prophet is to minimize His spiritual authority and ignore His divine attributes.

Today for the sake of brevity, we will focus on His role as a Jewish Rabbi who was anointed of God to correctly teach God’s people about the Kingdom of heaven.  As we seek to further understand the Jewish roots of our Christian faith, we must realize that Jesus was not only sent by God the Father to die for the remission of our sins, but also to dispel many false religious doctrines and traditions that had perverted the worship of Yahovah God.  Judaism, 2000 years ago (as well as today) had been contaminated by thousands of man-made traditions that had made the Word of God void.

In Mark 7:6-9, Jesus rebuked some of the Rabbis and religious leaders of His day for being hypocrites and only honoring God with their lips and not their hearts.

He answered and said to them, Well has Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. However, in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things you do. And he said to them, Full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition.”

They had substituted outward acts such as washing of hands, cups, pots, and brazen vessels, for the more important attitudes of inner holiness. Outwardly, these religious leaders appeared righteous, but inwardly they had no real love for God. Sound familiar?

Many of the Jewish Rabbis and teachers of the Law were guilty of placing man-made traditions above or before God’s written Word.  The same problem exists within the Christian churches today. Man-made or denominational doctrines have also superseded the Word of God. Jesus the Rabbi would again rebuke many of the religious shephereds (Christian pastors and preachers) today for being hypocrites and following the traditions of men instead of Gods Word.

Jesus indeed was the greatest Rabbi that has ever lived!  If we are to practice an authentic form of Christianity, Jesus the Messiah, our Savior and Lord of our lives, must have the final word over everything that we accept as truth, and practice.

If you’re not sure if your church or denomination is teaching the absolute truth according to the Old and New Testament Bible, go to Rabbi Jesus. Pray and ask Him to show you the way.  Rabbi Jesus declare in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one can come to God the Father except through Me.” AMEN.
