The House Church Movement

House Church Meeting

Thousands of Christians are now meeting in simple House Churches in the United States. They have “dropped out” of organized religion and prefer to worship God in greater authenticity and simplicity – just like the early Christians did.

One of our readers wrote:

“I’m looking for a balanced church that teaches the entire Word of God; one who loves the nation of Israel; one that teaches truth; one that edifies and builds up but is not afraid to correct in love when necessary; one that treats all people the same – regardless of race or color; one that is reaching out with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and winning the lost; one who is concerned with the poor and needy and the downtrodden; one that believes in the power of God and the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit for today. Does such a church exist? I’ve searched everywhere but so far I haven’t found one. Do you have any suggestions where I might look?”

Dear Searching:

It sounds like you’re looking for the “perfect church.” I’m afraid that they are not easy to find these days. My recommendation is to find a local church in your area that fits your criteria as closely as possible and then become actively involved to improve whatever areas are lacking.

You might also prayerfully consider starting your own House Church.  There are thousands of believers in Jesus Christ that have “dropped out” of institutionalized Christianity and are now meeting in simple house churches. Meeting in house churches is how the early Christian Church began. The first Christians met together in their own homes for worship, prayer, communion, and fellowship. If you would like assistance in starting a new House Church, contact me for further direction. If you need it, we can also help you get formally established as a recognized church.

The Advantages of a House Church

“Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.”1 Corinthians 14:26

The House Church Movement is being called “The New Reformation” because of the dramatic changes taking place in the Body of Christ. Believers are “dropping out” of the stagnant, institutionalized form of Christianity and returning back to the vibrant worship and fellowship that the Early Christians practiced in the first century.

From living rooms to coffee shops, offices to parking lots, under trees and secretly underground (in oppressive countries), these new expressions of the Body of Christ are rapidly multiplying around the world. In recent years, Christian researchers and secular media alike have taken notice of the dramatic transformation within Christianity.

  1. Although I agree that in opressed countries the only way to worship is through clandestine house meetings I dont think that should be the case in the U.S. The first thing about house churches is the lack of accountability. People do and say their own thing and almost always is not aligned with the word of God. We need to be accountable and most of all obedient to what God Himself institutionalized, the church. People who want to live by their own rules and not Gods are the ones who “stray” from their churches. Some “Christians” like to be arrogant and plain disobedient to the Lord and decide that having their own churches in their homes and laying out the “rules” as the go along is the way to go. Nothing is perfect, only God, but we have to deal with what we got in maturity, wisdom and most of all in humble obedience to our Creator that is who in fact created the church.
