Ignorance Is Not Bliss

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him [Jesus] and given Him a name [rank, authority and power] which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and that every tongue [willingly or unwillingly] confess that Jesus the Messiah is Lord, to the glory [pleasure and magnification] of God the Father.” – Philippians 3:9-11 (JCV)

TODAY’S COMMENTARY

A common proverb states, “Ignorance is bliss”, or in other words, what you don’t know won’t hurt you. But not when it comes to the things of God. If fact, God once declared, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6)

One day every person that has ever lived will stand before our Creator to give account of his or her lives at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15). Those who’s names are found written in the Book of Life will be rewarded with eternal life with God in happiness and bliss. On the other hand, those who’s names are not found in His book will spend an eternity in torment separated from God forever. Among other things, they will be guilty of rejecting God’s lovingkindness and saving grace through His Son Jesus the Messiah.

No one will be able to use the excuse, “I never knew.”

They will not be able to stand before God and claim ignorance — that they never knew the gospel or had opportunity to accept God’s free gift of salvation. They will not be able to justify themselves and declare, “So sorry, God, pardon my lack of knowledge; I wasn’t aware that Jesus sacrificed Himself for my sins, therefore I shouldn’t be condemned. You’re not being fair.”

On the contrary, God is always fair and just in everything that He does. For thousands of years He has been calling mankind to repentance, and to accept the saving gospel of Jesus, His anointed one. No one who refuses to accept His salvation will be acquitted as a result of pleading ignorance.

The question is not, “Should I pretend to be ignorant and take my chances with God later on?”. The question you should be asking yourself is, “While I still have opportunity, shouldn’t I receive Jesus as my Savior and Lord today?” There is no neutral ground with God, you are either for Jesus, or against Jesus (Matthew 12:30). You’re either serving God, or you’re serving the devil by default.

Every knee shall bow.

Philippians 3:9-11 tells us that, one-day, everyone is going to bow before Jesus – both the righteous as well as the condemned. You can willingly confess that He is LORD today, or you can unwillingly confess Him as Lord tomorrow – when it will be too late. In the later days, everyone will have to submit to King Jesus when He returns. Every knee will have to bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for your free gift of salvation through your Son Jesus the Messiah. Please forgive me of my sins. I willingly confess today that I want Jesus to be the Savior of my life, and I bow down to Him as the LORD of Lords, and King of Kings. To You, O Lord, be all glory and honor, forever and ever, amen.
